Obituary of Margaret Jane Erhart

At age 92 she was still a Tough-Olde-Scot? Margaret Jane, eldest daughter of Ab and Edna Moffatt of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at the Regina Parkside Extendicare. Margaret is survived by her son Jim; daughters Carol (Neill) and Candoe; grandchildren Whitney, Courtney, Erin (Jason) and Amy; and great-grandchildren Harper and Hunter. Margaret is also survived by her brother Jack (Dorothy); sisters Verna, Lyla and Mildred and a host of nieces and nephews. Nothing was more important to Margaret than family. Margaret enjoyed a house filled with people and laughter, and the clink of glasses. She appreciated regular visits and daily telephone calls. The more people around the table the happier she was. Friends and family will remember Margaret for her joy. Sewing costumes was her greatest joy. Since 1966 she sewed dresses, with all the appropriate underpinnings, and decorated hats for Reginas Buffalo Days. After years of entering costume contests she became a Grand Prize winner and then a judge. Margaret participated in countless fashion shows where she often did the commentary. Needlework was another great joy for Margaret as she spent hours stitching and then hanging the framed results on her walls. Other pleasures included baking bread, gardening, calligraphy and knitting. For years and years Margaret volunteered at Farm Progress. She enjoyed the sights and sounds and schmoozing with all the people there. Last but not least, Margaret was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Club. Music and a snack filled many a delightful afternoon. Margaret was known to accompany Don Messer on the phonograph and even had the privilege of playing his violin. Margarets courage and determination to live a happy life was an inspiration to all those who knew her. For a life filled with creativity and integrity, we give thanks. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Rev. Neill McRae officiating. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers gratefully declined. Those so wishing may make donations in Margarets memory to a charity of their choice.
