Obituary of Benedict Peter Ferner
Our husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Benedict Peter Ferner (Ben), went to his eternal heavenly home on Dec 31, 2022, at the age of 94.
Ben was born in 1928 and grew up near Kronau, Sask. Ben and Clara were married and raised their 6 children on the family farm. In addition to farming, Ben enjoyed driving the local kids to school as their bus driver. Ben was an active member of the community and proud to be part of the lay ministry program, and the barbershop quartet with many of his good friends and neighbors. Ben and Clara transitioned from the farm in 1992 and moved into Regina.
Ben had a strong faith that guided him throughout his life. He had a sensitive, kind and gentle nature and a warm, welcoming smile. He had a playful sense of humour and was known for his strong work ethic. He loved the challenge of fixing and making things work. It was an absolute thrill for him to trouble shoot broken appliances and machinery and would work tirelessly until he solved the problem. He chose to see and celebrate the good in people and helping others was a way of life for him.
Ben was predeceased by his daughter Kathy Harte; mother Rosemary (Geiger); father George Ferner; stepmother Matilda (Fahlman); brother Harold Ferner; and sister Diane Homeniuk.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Clara; children David, Jeff (Colleen), Danny (Brenda), Rose Sterzer (Tim), and Colleen Smith (Mike); as well as his grandchildren Curtis, Kevin, Meagan, Alyssa, Carina, Lauren, Ryan, Emma, Erin, Julianne and Chanelle; and great-grandchildren Breighton, Ryland, Wyatt, Gavin, Rocco, Edri, Maylee and Zaihla.
A memorial mass for Ben will be held at St Cecilia Roman Catholic Church (5020 7th Ave Regina, Sask) on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 1:00 PM. A celebration of life and refreshments to follow.
The memorial service will be live streamed through the St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church website under the livestream area at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Parish, Regina SK, Canada (stcecregina.com).
