Obituary of Vernon Albert Kramer

Vern passed away peacefully on the Veterans Ward at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 95 years of age. He was predeceased by his parents Peter Joseph Kramer and Wilhelmina (Minnie) (nee Gesellchen); his beloved wife Hedy (nee Fahlman); sisters Rosella Proud, Lillian McIntosh, Doris Bernard, Marguerite Gale, and Thelma Jackson; brothers Harold, Eugene and Kenneth; and numerous respective brothers and sisters-in-law. Vern is survived by his children, their spouses and families: Karin Lee (James) Lissel; Vernon Jr.; Marilyn (Dave) Younghusband; Patrick; David (Wendy); Kim Kramer; and Penny Kramer, nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and (at last count) twenty great-grandchildren, and one step-great-granddaughter. Vern is also survived by one sister-in-law Elsie Kramer; several sisters/brothers-in-law from the Fahlman family, and many Kramer and Fahlman nieces and nephews. Vern served in the Canadian Army from September 23, 1939 to October 29, 1945. He was a Sergeant in the 18th battery, anti-tank; and was stationed in England and actively engaged in battle in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war, he remained overseas for several months assisting in the clean up in Holland. The Family would like to thank the wonderful compassionate nurses, Dr. Newton, and staff at the Veterans Ward 3-6 at Wascana Rehab Centre for his care and well being. He enjoyed life to the fullest there for the last (almost) 4 years. He often said growing old is not for sissies? and proved it to the end. life was like being on a roller coaster, with all its twists and turns?. Dad rode it with his face in the wind, laughing and shouting faster, faster?. He had an amazing ride! We will all miss him. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, in St. Marys R.C. Church, 2026 Winnipeg Street, Regina with Rev. Danilo T. Rafael presiding.
