Maurice Filson, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12,2023 at the age of 94 years.  He was predeceased by his parents Wilma and Marshall; twin brothers Gordon and George; and sister Janet. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Shirley; sister Irene (Si); sisters-in-law Debbie (Michael) and Marjorie; and a wonderful family of nieces and nephews.

Maurice loved people and was dedicated and active in community and fraternal organizations. He enjoyed sixteen years of service as a councillor and Reeve of the RM of Wood River, retiring in 1995. He was president of the Lafleche and District Health Board when the new Integrated Health Facility was built. A proud moment indeed was the ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening the new Health Facility.

Maurice was proud and honoured to be one of nine people selected to receive a Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal presented by the Lieutenant Governor, Gordon Barnhart.

Maurice and Shirley left the farm at Woodrow and moved to Regina where they chose a condo and were soon part of the condo community.  Maurice served on the Condo Board, organized the Men’s Coffee Group, pancake breakfasts and a recycling project and was always ready for the men’s weekly bridge games.

After thirty great years of condo living, Maurice and Shirley moved into a Seniors’ Retirement Home where they were soon part of a friendly, welcoming community and much to his delight Maurice found a group that played bridge!

Maurice lived a long and wonderful life and made so many people laugh and smile along the way. He will be sadly missed and always remembered.
