Obituary of Richard Yonkman

RICHARD (DICK) YONKMAN APRIL 18, 1923 OCTOBER 28, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family of Dick Yonkman late of Punnichy, SK, announces the peaceful passing on October 28 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife Elise; their children, Leonard (Gail), Donald (Joan), Bernard (Darla) and Doreen Benning (Ronald); ten grandchildren: Nolan, Krista, Tina, April, Shane, Chantelle, Sarah, Travis, Mitchell and Jennifer; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Bertha Yonkman; brother John; and sisters, Cecelia Cherwinski, Mary Glasman and Bertha Schlosser. Dick was born on a farm in the Kutawa District near Punnichy. He married Elise Klass on November 1, 1950; his death occurring four days short of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Dick loved farming and lived on the family homestead until his failing health in 2009 forced a move to Silver Heights Care Home in Raymore SK. He was active in the community, being a school trustee, 4-H leader, and a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for over 25 years. Dick had a passion for all sports and loved attending and watching his children and grandchildrens activities. Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at St. Albert Church, Punnichy, Sask. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dick may be made to your favorite charity.
