It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Eunice Vivian Dohlen (nee Smyth) on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Eunice passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the love of family in her final days. She was predeceased by Gordon, her loving husband of 64 years; parents, Bill and Marion Smyth; in-laws, Art and Norma Dohlen; and brother, Marvin Smyth. Eunice leaves to mourn her children, Janice, Mark, Kurt (David), and Valda (Paul); grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Degelman; brother, Gordon Smyth (Dot); sister-in-law, Irene Smyth; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

 

Eunice was born on December 20, 1929, in Earl Grey, Saskatchewan and grew up with her two brothers on the family farm. In 1949, she met Gordon Dohlen, the love of her life, and they were married on October 30, 1953. The couple settled in Regina, where they raised their family. A devoted wife and mother, Eunice created a loving home, all the while being an invaluable support to Gordon and his business success.

 

Eunice had many talents and interests, including sewing, baking, reading and cards. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips across Canada and around the world. Some of her most memorable holidays were to Ireland. She was proud of her heritage, and even though her Irish family was far away, they were close in heart.

 

Eunice had a passion for genealogy and photography and left a rich recording of family history and memories for her children and grandchildren. She had an active social life and made treasured friendships through her favourite past-time, bridge. She loved to entertain and hosted countless gatherings of friends and family. Her home and heart were open to all, and she was loved for her generous spirit and warm hospitality.

 

As a wife and mother, Eunice offered her family unconditional love and was proud of all their accomplishments. Above all, she was an adoring grandma, and it was her greatest pleasure to spend time with Matt and Megan, never missing a football game or piano recital.

 

Eunice lived life to the fullest, with gratitude and grace. Her gentle soul will be missed by all who knew her.

 

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Wintergreene Estates. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Earl Grey Mizpah, Earl Grey, SK S0G 1J0 would be appreciated. A celebration of Eunice’s life will be held at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. A private interment will be held at a later date.
