Obituary of Ernest George Gettle

January 21, 1930 October 31, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on October 31, 2010 at the age of 80. Ernie joins in heaven his parents Carl and Theresa, brother Rudy, sister Helen, daughter Theresa in infancy, and grandsons Steven and John in infancy. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Bernice, his seven children Mark (Brenda), Denise, Deanna, Tracey (Brent), Murray, Nicole (Chuck) and Jason (Sonja): thirteen grandchildren Marques, Michelle, Ryan, Nathan, Samantha, Ashley, Kyla, Shannon, Danielle, Phillip, Haylee, Sarah, Aislynn; and seven great-grandchildren. Ernie is also survived by his brothers and sisters Edward, John, Eva (Harold), William, Alfred (Leona), Lorraine (Helfred) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was born in Regina, SK and worked as a home builder/carpenter all his life, retiring at the age of 65. He was an unsung pioneer in the employment of Aboriginal people in the residential construction industry. In his younger years Ernie was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing and was a skillful and successful card player. In his later years Ernie could be found in his easy chair watching his favorite sports. He took enormous pleasure in his grandchildren and great-grandchildrens visits. Throughout his life Ernie had a connection with God and took great solace in his faith at the end. We will all miss him greatly. A Visitation will be held at 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Gateway Christian Fellowship, 1812 Arthur Street, Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5 or Gateway Christian Fellowship, 1812 Arthur Street, Regina, SK S4T 4W7.
