Obituary of Elaine Shirley Myrah

MYRAH, Elaine Shirley

April 17, 1926 – March 29, 2023

Elaine Shirley Myrah (nee Caldwell) passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Wesley Myrah; and her daughter-in-law, Michele. Elaine is survived by her children Loanne (Al); John (Michele, deceased); and their children Ainslie (Marc); their son Theo; Scott (Kelly), Kelsie (Adam); Gord (Michele), their children Matthew and Rachel; Earl; Lloyd; and her first cousin, Carol Finch.  Born on April 17, 1926, in Stillwater, Minnesota, where her mother returned home to deliver the new baby, Elaine and her mother soon returned to the Caldwell farm near Holdfast, SK. She grew up on the family farm, riding her pony to Kindred School, a one-room schoolhouse, and helping with the many chores found on a mixed farm. Elaine graduated from Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw and immediately entered nurse’s training at the Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw. Next, she was employed at the famed Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA and achieved surgical operating room certification. Returning to Regina, Elaine worked at the General Hospital and married Wesley Myrah, another Kindred School graduate from Holdfast. After her children were older, Elaine returned to nursing at the Wascana Rehabilitation Hospital, Department of Veterans Affairs unit. Mom was a born nurse who lived to provide care for people and animals. Nursing was her profession, vocation, and passion. She had many friends from her days in nurse’s training and her years in the profession. Raising 5 children, planting and harvesting countless gardens, canning and baking were some of her other talents. In later years Mom assisted her daughters-in-law with their newborn children and was always so very proud of all of her grandchildren. Watching sports, live or on television was Mom’s favourite past-time and she could be counted on to provide accurate information about professional athletes and teams in baseball, football, hockey and curling. Mom will be missed by her family. The Myrah family is thankful to Monica and her staff at Gardiner Point Care Home, who provided care and friendship for Elaine in her last three years, as well as the staff at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit. A Memorial Service for Elaine will be held at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
