Obituary of Nicholas Iannone

It is with great sorrow that the family of Nick Iannone, announces his passing on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Nick is loved and remembered by his wife of 48 years, Faye; his sons, Timothy (Sheryl), Christopher (Tammy), John (Roy); and his Angels? granddaughters Georgia and Ava. He was predeceased by his twin brother at birth; his parents Luigi and Irma; son Anthony in 1976; and brother Lou in 1998. Nick was born prematurely as the surviving twin to Luigi and Irma Iannone in Winnipeg, MB on April 20, 1922. At the age of 2 his family moved to Regina. Nicks childhood was filled with epileptic seizures. At the age of 16, he was accepted to the Montreal Neurological Institute where he received a groundbreaking brain surgery, on June 1, 1938, performed by the world renowned Dr. Wilder Penfield. After talking with his banker, Nick was convinced to start up his own shoe store. In June of 1960, he opened up Iannones Footwear in the Cathedral area on 13th Avenue, where it still stands today. Throughout the stages of his life, Nick was actively involved in his community, his church, Knights of Columbus, the Regina Catholic School Board, City Council, and the SGI Board of Directors. He was always generous with many of his customers, staff members, friends, and others in need. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, on the corner of Sherwood Drive and McIntosh Street, Regina at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2010. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Nicks legacy was a great family owned business that he passed on to his children. More importantly, he was a man of strong convictions, a leader in his faith, a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Warden and all the compassionate health care workers that looked after Dad throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
