Obituary of Gladys Mabel O'Connor

GLADYS MABEL OCONNOR (nee Green) We are saddened to announce the passing of our Aunt Gladys on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the age of 104 years. She was born on January 20, 1909, in Malvern, Worcester, England. Gladys was predeceased by her husband J. Leon OConnor in 1991, her parents Harry and Blanche Green (nee Berry) and her siblings, Leslie, Herbert (Bert), Doris and Edward. She is survived by her daughter Lauren (Rick) Howel of Toronto ON, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Western Canada including her nieces, Bobbie Rowbothan and Carol (Wayne) Eaton and their families, and cousin Sue Luchuck, all of Regina. Gladys immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1911 and resided in Winnipeg, Manitoba until 1918. The family moved to Regina where a few years later her father opened Greens Beauty Salon in the former Broder Building. Gladys worked as a hairdresser and also taught piano. Gladys and Leon were married in 1936 and moved to Saskatoon for a few years. They returned to Regina in 1949 and were active in both the Kinsmen and Rotary Clubs. Gladys was an avid bridge player for many years. She had been a resident at Sunset Extendicare since March 2011 and we would like to thank the staff for their care and compassion. There will be no funeral at Gladys request. A private interment will take place in Riverside Memorial Park at a later date.
