Obituary of Helen Labatt

HELEN LABATT Helen, late of William Albert House, Emerald Park, SK, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 95 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie; parents Loretta and John Kelly; sisters Margaret, Grace and Mary Kelly and her brother Claude. Mom leaves to mourn her children: Sharron Labatt (Glen Gregg), John (Claudia), Shelagh Sitter (Darryl Shirkey), Audrey (Gary) Drummond, Ron (Coleen) and Mike (Yvette). She also leaves her beloved 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Mom completed her Grade 12 and one year at Regina Success Business College. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the order desk for Burns Ltd. Many years later, when other women were retiring, Mom worked for the Regina Housing Authority as a resident coordinator in a seniors high-rise, then for Wascana Home Care providing support services. Seniors often asked her to just sit and visit.? She then volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program, all the while being readily available to babysit her grandchildren whenever possible. Mom was active in the Catholic Womens League at Sacred Heart Parish for over 30 years, served as President and Chair of Fundraising. We all inherited Moms musical ability and she ensured that her childrens talents were developed through lessons and her direction. Irish songs were her favorite and she sang these in her beautiful soprano voice, with her own take on some wording, right up to her passing. Oh, the heart of the Irish! A Celebration of Helens life will be announced at a later date. Our appreciation to Wilma Ahmed for her care and companionship to Helen.
