Obituary of Elizabeth Somerville

It is with overwhelming sadness and broken hearts that we, her children, announce the sudden death of our mother and best friend. For each of us, mom was not only a wonderful mother, she was also our confidant, our guiding light and the pillar of our family. After Lloyd, her husband of 54 years and our loving dad passed away peacefully August 30, 2008, mom took charge in helping us through the loss. During the last 30 months, mom endured many obstacles and somehow managed to lead us, all while keeping those she encountered chatting and laughing. Mom was the youngest of four children born to Dan and Kae Zaremba in Ormiston, SK. The Romanian heritage they passed on to her was a great source of pride. She was actively involved in the Romanian Canadian Cultural Club, finding a way to participate in all that went on. She worked hard all her life, from her days on the farm to managing the offices in Regina and Edmonton for NorthWest Life. Mom's three grandchildren, Taylor, Ashley and Madison, who live in Alberta brought her immense joy and delight. Her love and pride for them was overwhelming. She was so excited and was looking forward to attending Ashley's wedding this June. Mom took great pleasure in her regular visits and calls from our uncle Steve and aunt Helen Zaremba. Other things she cherished and anticipated were her many activities including her pool class with her friends and sharing every Thursday with our aunt Mae Popescu, for a hairdo, lunch and a movie. Though the three of us children are spread across three provinces, we all stayed in very close contact with mom and rarely missed a day sharing time with her on the phone or in person. She taught us many things, but the ones that stand out the most to us were her unending smile, her love of a laugh and her generous gift of all she had to offer. We shall find peace in the knowledge that Jesus has taken away her pain as He welcomed her into His loving heavenly arms. She is now reunited with dad and all of her family and friends who have been called before her. In honour of our mother, we ask that you join us in the celebration of her life. All are welcome! Bonnie Marchuk, Red Deer, AB; Douglas Somerville, Vancouver, BC and Pamela Isted, Regina, SK. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina.
