Obituary of George John Allan

GEORGE JOHN ALLAN It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of George on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. George is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee Collins); his son Jack and children Amanda, Andrew and Alex; daughters Donna (Ian) Roach and children Christine (Donavon) Sanson and Craig (Mariel) and Lorraine (Kevin) Punshon and children Sarah and Jeffrey. He was predeceased by his parents James and Margaret Allan of Verwood, SK; sisters Agnes Hopkins and Margaret Lovick; and brother James. George was born in Verwood, SK and moved to Regina at a very early age. After completing school, he obtained employment in a local mens wear store. He soon realized that the retail and fashion business was his goal. George joined Marler Shoes Ltd. in 1946, and became sole owner in 1961. He operated three stores in Regina for many years. George loved the shoe business, and over the years he made many good friends, and was so pleased to have so many loyal customers. During the winter months, George and Dorothy would take off for the warmth and sun of Palm Springs and Arizona. They golfed with good friends and enjoyed the relaxation of their time there. George was a member of Wesley United Church. In recent years Georges health failed and he suffered with debilitating dementia. He had been a patient at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for the past two years. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Kim Antosh officiating.
