Obituary of Doreen Fisher

DOREEN FISHER Myrtle Doreen Fisher passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the age of 83. She will be deeply missed by her husband Duncan; children Duncan (Elyse) and Heidi (Bob); grandchildren Allison (Stephen), Andy, Carly (Chad) and Max; and by her sister Betty Turner and brother Bill Stimpson. Doreen loved the visual and performing arts and for 20 years inspired her students at Sheldon Williams Collegiate by teaching arts appreciation, pottery, and English. Each year she was an integral part of the set design and make-up for the Sheldon operetta. The door to her classroom was always open and she was loved by students and colleagues alike. Doreen, with Dunc, was a committed patron and volunteer for the MacKenzie Art Gallery. She chaired the Gallery Volunteers group and hosted an Art-in-Bloom table for many years. Despite her aversion to flying, there was nothing Doreen loved more than traveling to New York or Stratford, Ontario with Dunc to visit art galleries and attend plays. Another love, gardening, saw Doreen and Dunc spend hours in the yard each summer cultivating their beautiful flower beds and planted pots. Anyone who drove past their house knew that geraniums, in particular, were her favourites. Once retired, Doreen was free to indulge her greatest love - her grandchildren. Sleepovers, tie-dying t-shirts, digging worms in the garden, painting Easter eggs, visiting Wascana Park and an untold number of adventures and experiences were her gift to them. She will be lovingly remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.
