Obituary of Harry George Kangles

HARRY GEORGE KANGLES Harry passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on May 18, 2009 at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Annie on February 24, 2007 after almost 62 years of marriage and was also predeceased by his parents George and Angeline Kangles. Harry is survived by his two sons and their wives, George and Ismahen Kangles of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Nick and Valerie Kangles of Calgary. His six grandchildren, Jamelie Kangles and Yasmine Key of Chattanooga and Sarah, Caitlin, Paul and Lauren Kangles of Calgary, were a constant source of joy and amusement to him. He is also survived by his younger sister Sophie Spiliotopoulos of Montreal, her daughter Angela Hould of Toronto and her son George Spiliotopoulos of Montreal. Harry spent his entire working life in the hospitality industry working tirelessly in the LaSalle Hotel and the Georgia Hotel in Regina and the El Rancho Motel in Weyburn. He was active in the Hotel Association of Saskatchewan, ultimately serving as its President. He was very successful in the hotel business because he loved people and made them feel special when they walked through the doors of his establishment. He never seemed to forget a name or face. He was generous to a fault, always going out of his way to help his customers and his friends. Upon his retirement he continued in the hospitality industry in a volunteer? position, acting as the unofficial travel agent and tour guide for numerous people travelling from Saskatchewan to Mazatlan, Mexico for their winter vacations. Harry and Anne loved Mazatlan and spent the better part of 20 winters there. Harry did everything with a great deal of energy; he worked hard and played hard. Regina Beach was his refuge in the summer, where he enjoyed boating and water skiing at high speeds, and regularly entertaining in excess of 20 guests for his famous barbecues. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina S4P 2R3. Harry`s family would like to express their great appreciation to the staff on Unit 4D at the Pasqua Hospital for the wonderful care, compassion and comfort they brought Harry in his final days.
