Obituary of Milford Joseph Metz

Milford Joseph Metz March 8, 1922 to June 28, 2009 Milford (Mel) passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in the loving arms of his family after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his first wife Olga, parents Peter and Magdalene, brother Leland, brother-in-law Edwin and son Timothy. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy; children Darrell, Linda Lucyk, Barry, Cheryl (Randy) Birchard, Kevin (Dixie), Jackie (Micheal) Hall; brothers Melvin and Laverne, sisters Louise Metz and Eileen (Ed) Gallagher; brothers-in-law Cliff (Sharon) Veer, Wes (Gwen) Veer; sisters-in-law Leona (Mac) Paton, Gwen Veer, Grace Cook; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mel was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family. His lifelong passion was farming and he enjoyed working the land with his children and his brother Leland for over 50 years. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic during WWII and spoke often of his many friends in the service. Mel was also an avid sports fan maintaining a staunch loyalty to the Maple Leafs, Roughriders and Blue Jays. Mel will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Renaissance Retirement Home for their care and concern during the 2 years he lived there. Special thanks to Dr. Lotz and the caring hospital staff on Pasqua 4A who were a great comfort to Mel and his family. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 2nd at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 1021 McCarthy Blvd N, Rev Brad Fahlman presiding. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
