Obituary of George Shlakoff

GEORGE SHLAKOFF George Shlakoff was born in the Kamsack area on July 20, 1932 and passed away in Regina on Sunday, July 12, 2009. He attended the Runnydale School and Poplar Point School. Born and raised on a farm, he continued to farm with his wife Mary (nee Boodchuk) until 1980. It was then that he sold the farm and moved to Yorkton. In Yorkton he went into partnership with a friend and purchased a taxi company. George later moved to Fort QuAppelle with his wife Mary and they both studied to become paramedics. George and Mary were paramedics in Fort QuAppelle for a number of years. When his wife Mary passed away in 2003, George moved to Regina. George was an avid gardener. He had a keen eye for beauty and balance in nature. His lawns and gardens always won him awards in Fort QuAppelle. He would spend hours manicuring the lawns, tending the flowers, grooming the trees, and ensuring that the fountain and brook ran effortlessly. George was very interested in researching Doukhobor history and family ties. He spent countless hours pouring over any material that he could get his hands on. One day at the hospital he said, I have enough information to write seven volumes!? George was a self taught pianist and enjoyed playing for us when the family would get together. George was predeceased by his wife, Mary; his parents, George and Ann Shlakoff; and a son, Richard. Left to mourn him are his children, Terri (Ken), Douglas, Betty (Craig) Chernoff, Dolores, Raymond and Robert; his grandchildren, Lauren (Rory) Glover, Tyler, Rikki and Stephanie Chernoff, and Trevor Como; his great-grandchildren Bianca and Cataleena Glover. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Riverview Cemetery in Kamsack. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina S4P 2R3. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
