Obituary of Brian Hugh Campbell

Brian Hugh Campbell, Ph.D 1947-2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband and father, Brian Hugh Campbell on July 30, 2009 at the age of 62 years. Brian passed on after a brave and courageous battle with cancer that he endured with stoicism and grace. He is survived by his wife Judy of 35 years, his children Sean, Alison and Regan, his son-in-law Nathan, his brothers Frank (Marilyn), Bob (Brenda) and Larry and his sister Karen (Ray). Brian was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Ruth Campbell, his brother Keith and his sister-in-law Jan. Brian was born on April 15, 1947 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. He joined the University of Regina as the head of the Off-Campus Studies Division of the then-Faculty of Extension in 1997. He had previously been Principal and CEO of the Northwest Regional College. Brian was a tireless advocate for distance learners, whether they be regional college students in the classroom, televised students located across the province or online students exploring new pathways to learning. He was involved in a variety of the committees and processes that helped create the Technology-Enhanced Learning environment in Saskatchewan. He was also well known as an empathetic and kind Division Head, who inspired strong loyalty in his staff. Brian was not only a strong administrator, but was also a lifelong learner, researcher and teacher. He completed his Ph.D in Education in 2007 and received the Canadian Association of University Education 2008 Graduate Research Award for his dissertation. He presented research work at the University Continuing Education Association of Distance Education annual meetings. He was an associate member of the Faculty of Education and developed and taught online graduate courses for the Faculty of Education. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, August 6th, 2009 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan S4P 1C5.
