Obituary of Etna Florence Brown

Etna Brown (nee Wilson) passed away peacefully on August 11, 2009 at Country Lane Care Home, Pilot Butte with family and caregivers by her side. Etna was born on April 25, 1934 in a Model A somewhere between the farm and Limerick. She attended Orinoco, a one room schoolhouse until high school when the family moved into Limerick. She came to Regina, found a job with STC and married Ed Sjostrand. After Paula was born, Etna returned to the provincial government working in several departments until she retired in 1996 after 42 years. She also worked at the Centre of the Arts (Conexus) for many years as a Dresser. Her favourite show was Cats. Perhaps it was Etnas small town upbringing but she was actively involved with various charities including the Regina Humane Society, the SPCA and the Core Community Association. Etna loved her cats, her house, garden and travelling, especially to Barbados. But most of all she loved her one and only grandchild, Alex. She was a feisty little redhead aptly named after the volcano, Mount Etna and lived her life as she wanted. Etna was predeceased by her parents Harry and Mary Wilson; her brother Nellis Hamilton and wife Lil; her sister Nettie and husband Hal Bratrud; brother Eddie Wilson. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law Hamilton Jones, Edie and Wally Tait, Lynn Saunderson and Harold Walters. Left to fondly remember her is daughter Paula (Frank) Grolle; grandson Alex; sisters Mary (Dan) Komesch, Ella Jones, Doris (Denis) Partridge; brothers and sisters-in-law Claire Wilson, Maxine Walters, Elsie and Peter Jaques, Roy and Marlene Sjostrand and Ivan Saunderson; numerous nieces and nephews. Many thanks to everyone at Country Lane Care Home for providing Etna with such wonderful care this past month. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, with a luncheon to follow. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to those charities previously mentioned as well as Souls Harbour or the Salvation Army.
