Obituary of Muriel Doris Bowman

Muriel Doris Bowman, 95, of Regina, passed quietly away after a period of failing health, Sunday, November 4, 2012. Muriel was born Oct 23, 1917, near Kaleida, MB, to Marshall and Clara Beatty. The family homesteaded near Tisdale in 1923 and later moved there where Muriel attended school. She met her husband, Don Bowman, at the University of Saskatchewan where she graduated as a celebrated beauty with a degree in Household Science. Married, mid-war, in 1943, Muriel worked at various war-effort jobs but chiefly as a teacher in Prince George, BC. Postwar, she became a home-maker in Saskatoon, North Battleford, Regina and Lumsden where she worked for years as the Librarian. She also wrote and was published in several journals including The Readers Digest. Guided by an unwavering faith, Muriel was an active Christian and a popular member of community organizations wherever she lived. Muriel had immense will and strength of character, a warm and winning smile and was unfailingly cheerful. She was a devoted wife and mother and her many friends are tribute to a long and exemplary life spent seeking and serving the needs of others. Muriel is survived by husband, Donald Bowman, children Brian (Lorna Forsyth), Cathy, David, Tammy (Kim Calfas), grandchildren Kelcy, Dan, Joe, Christopher, Stephie and numerous great grandchildren and extended relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Santa Maria for the care and comfort they gave Muriel in her final days. A memorial service for Muriel will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, at Heritage Alliance Church, 3575 Hillsdale St. Regina.
