Obituary of Alexander Shields

ALEXANDER SHIELDS On August 24, 2009, Dad passed away at the age of 85 with family at his side. It comforts us to know he is now with the love of his life, Beryl, who passed away September 1, 2008. He loved his family, was a wonderful husband, father, grandad, and great-grandad. Dad taught us about love, responsibility, compassion, humor, and courage by being a great role model. He is predeceased by his wife, Beryl, of 61 years; his first born son, Spence; his great-granddaughter, Emma; and his brothers, Robert and John. Dad loved spending time with his family, golfing, curling, darts, and storytelling. Dad participated for 24 years in the Terry Fox Run, was a life member with the Red Cross by donating blood, and was the captain of our team for the Relay for Life in honor of our Mom. For 25 years Dad walked daily in Wascana Park. It was part of his soul. We thank family and friends for their words of support and prayers. We send our gratitude to the nurses and staff of Unit 4A, Pasqua Hospital for their compassionate care of Dad. He will be sadly missed by his children: Heather (Rod) Banda, Sandra (Neil) Sherwin-Shields, Debbie (Bob) Medak, Gordon (June) Shields, and Joy Jones; grandchildren: Jep (Treena), Jody (Jaci), Lindy (Terry), Jackie (Ryan), Brandi (Oyvind), Tyler, Jodi (Trent), Jackie, Vince (Sharon), Jason (Tangelyn), Tamara (Dean), Tina, Cory (Mandy), and Christi (Matt); great-grandchildren: Madison, McKinley, Emelia, Easton, Kai, Zac, Kobe, Taia, Tessa, Sander, Brett, Cale, Kendra, Tanner, Summer, Kohl, Keanna, Anakin, Drake, Brooke, Douce, Sofie, Charley, and Lucy; sisters, Anna and Ria; sisters-in-law: Edith, Rea, Alice (Ernest), Arvilla, and Edna; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alexs memory can be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada, Box 309, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 3L3.
