Obituary of Maurice Valentine Winton

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Maurice V. Winton on August 26, 2009 at the age of 89 years. He was born September 30, 1919 in Darlington, England. At the young age of seventeen years he joined the Royal Air Force, later training in Moose Jaw, Sask. where he met & married Louise Marchak in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II serving in India & flying over Burma, with Squadron 355, as rear gunner in a Liberator B-24. This Squadron engaged in the Mission that destroyed The Bridge over the River Kwai. Maurice was a member of the Burma Bombers, receiving the Burma Star & the South East Asia Bar. After the war, Maurice & Louise made their home in Viceroy, Sask. where they farmed & owned a Clover Farm Store (1956-62) while raising their five children. In 1974, they moved to Regina, Sask. where Maurice worked in Property Management for the RCMP Depot for ten years. Maurice is predeceased by his parents, Charlie & Eliza Winton & his sister Hazel Winton, all of Darlington, England; his loving wife, Louise (nee Marchak) and grandson Curtis Pare. Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Maurice S.Winton, Winfield, BC, Patricia Chubb (Allan), Fort QuAppelle, SK, Marion Krucik (Ed), Lloydminster, AB, Judy Pare (Gary), Pilot Butte, SK, Donna Raiter (Chester) Regina, SK; 13 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harold (Florence); one nephew Graham Winton; one niece Pamela Alderson (Peter) all of England. Maurice lived his final five years as a resident in Broadway Terrace Personal Care Home, Regina, Sask. The family wishes to thank the staff for their kindness & for their care. They also wish to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit in the Pasqua Hospital for their compassion along with Dr. Kucmicz for her many years of faithfulness.
