Obituary of Ethel Mildred Henderson

ETHEL MILDRED HENDERSON (nee Bennett) April 12, 1924 " September 4, 2009 ETHEL MILDRED HENDERSON (nee Bennett) Ethel passed away peacefully September 4, 2009 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1996; her parents William and Flora Bennett; brothers Russell, Clarence, Harvie and Harold; sister Jean Meikle; and nephew Harvey Meikle. Ethel is survived by her son Wayne (Sandy) Henderson - Lumsden; daughters, Audrey Henderson - Calgary, and Lori Henderson (Greg Atchison) - Vanscoy; grandchildren, Lee (Brent) Svangstu - Crosby ND, Chet Henderson - Calgary, Kari (Dan) Fawcett - Ree Heights SD, Drew Henderson (Jenna Lee) - Regina, Sherry Fast, Craig Hendrickson - Saskatoon; three great grandchildren Delicia Fast Webster - Saskatoon, Tucker and Cooper Svangstu - Crosby ND, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Ethel was born April 12, 1924 on the family farm in the Dundee District where she attended grade school, followed by Lumsden High and Balfour Technical School. She joined the Signal Branch of the Women's Naval Service and spent 3 years at various postings across Canada. She and Bob were married in 1945 and spent the next 25 years on the Henderson farm before moving to Lumsden. Ethel got great pleasure following her children's and grandchildren's activities. She enjoyed gardening, music, singing in the choir, curling, golfing, and playing cards. She was a proud member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years and enjoyed times spent at the Dew Drop In with friends. The family wishes to thank everyone in the community for their support and kindness over the last few years. A celebration of Ethel's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Lumsden United Church, Lumsden, Saskatchewan with Rev. Marjorie Kent officiating. Interment in Lumsden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lumsden and District Heritage Home, 10 Aspen Bay, Lumsden SK S0G 3C0.
