Obituary of Charles Fred Wilkie

Charles Wilkie passed away October 23, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Charles (Chuck) was born at Neudorf SK in 1923, the only child of Josephine and Joseph Wilschke. In 1936 Chuck moved to Regina to complete his education. In 1941 Chuck joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1942 he went overseas as a Navigator and flew heavy bombers for the duration of WWII. Chuck married Opal Pedersen in 1946 and they moved to Killaly SK where he did custom trucking. The following year they moved to Milestone district where they farmed until retirement. Chuck is predeceased by his parents Josephine and Joseph Wilschke; uncle and aunts, Phillip and Kaye Gattinger, Anne Miester, and Margaret Mohr; cousins Delmer and Bob Gattinger; brothers-in-law Jessie, Earl and Woodrow Pedersen; sister-in-law Marion Pedersen. Chuck is survived by his wife Opal and children: Brian and Sandra, their children: Heather (Marty), Lisa (Shane) and Steven (Kristin); Grant and Linda, their children: Angela (Eliaja), Aaron (Natasha), Trina (Sam); Jim and Pam, their children: Joseph (Lindsay) and Sarah (Dustin); great grandchildren: Everet, Ben and Emma, Liam and Malcolm, Oliver, Aubrey and Peyton, and Hayden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Chuck believed in doing all things to the best of his ability. This was reflected in his farming practice and the carpentry work he loved. Chuck was active in the community, as he was a member of the Home and School Association, the United Church Board and the Prairie View School District. He was past president of the Legion and past master of the Masonic Lodge in Milestone. The family would like to thank Dr. Whittick for his exceptional care and friendship over the years. Thanks also to Home Care staff who provided support and brightened Chucks day. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Milestone United Church with Rev. Tim Ellis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Chuck, may be made to Milestone United Church, Milestone SK, S0G 3L0 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of SK, 279 " 3rd Ave N., Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8.
