Obituary of Alice Ball

Alice Ball, late of Regina SK passed away Wednesday October 28, 2009 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her parents Hendrik and Aaltje Jansen, three brothers Harry, Henry, Steven and one sister Wanda Shibley, Alice is survived by her husband of 59 years Harold; son Randall Ball (Audrey Colhoun) of Lumsden SK; daughter Patty (Kevin) Coons of Saskatchewan Beach; two grandchildren Corey and Kristine Coons; five sisters Teunisje Harrison of Calgary AB, Harriette (Vern) Rau of Red Deer AB, Marie (Roy) Smith of Calgary AB, Jeanette Spielman of Calgary AB, Johanna (Nick) VanVeen of Chilliwack BC; numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was born on a farm near Alderson, Alberta February 13, 1923 and later moved to Dog Pound AB where she grew up with her six sisters and two brothers. Alice attended public school at Summit Hill, AB. and completed her high school by correspondence. After high school she moved to Calgary and attended Henderson Business College. Her first job was with CFAC Radio Calgary where she stayed until she got a call from CKCK Radio asking if she would be interested in doing the book keeping and accounting in Regina. She accepted and worked for CKCK Radio until 1954. In 1949 she met a young engineer with the City of Regina, whom she married in 1950. Alice enjoyed flower arranging, square dancing and teaching Sunday school. She was a long time member of Lakeview United Church and very active with the St. Johns Ambulance Nursing Sisters for many years. In recent years Alice enjoyed ocean cruises and spending time in Victoria during the winter. In summer months she enjoyed time with friends and family at the cottage on Last Mountain Lake. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 1:30 pm in Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina SK. Private interment to follow in Silton Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Nursing Staff of the Pasqua Hospital and to all the staff of the Broadway Terrace Personal Care Home. Flowers most gratefully declined.
