Obituary of Eleanor Louise Wagner

Eleanor Wagner passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2009 in Regina, Saskatchewan, at the age of 95, surrounded by several of her children and grandchildren. Eleanor was born in the Craven district in 1914 to Maggie and George Catley. She married Jake Wagner in 1945 and raised her five children; Wayne, Elouise, Florence, Raymond and Marlene on the family farm. Jake and Eleanor moved from the farm to a home in Regina in 1974 where she lived until recently. Eleanor devoted her life to her parents, her husband, her children, grandchildren and her community. She was active in many clubs and organizations, sometimes attending three different events in one day. She attended two churches, sometimes both on the same day, and volunteered in many activities through the church. She organized entertainment for the elderly living in nursing homes, delivered meals on wheels and served lunch for the homeless in downtown Regina. She was also very active in politics and a strong supporter of the N.D.P. Eleanor was an avid gardener and was happiest when out at the farm. She loved to share her farm home with family and friends, and hosted many picnics and gatherings in the yard. She spent many hours tending her vegetables and the many fruit trees that she grew. As a member of the Horticultural Society, she took many prizes with her apples, plums and pears. She was very proud that her apricot tree produced its first fruit this year. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Jake, in 1979; brother, Lloyd in 1999; granddaughter, Lorie in 1999; daughter, Elouise in 2002; sister-in-law, Helen in 2004; and several other Wagner relatives. She is survived by Wayne George (Alice) and daughter Heidi (Manolo); Allan Harding (Melissa) and children Colby and Ella; Warren Harding (Kim) and their father Don (Joan); Florence (Jack) and children Matthew (Ashley), Kara (Don) and Stacey; Raymond (Darlyne) and children Mark (Jen), Shannon (Dion) and Michael; Marlene Hunter (John) and children Brianna (Chris) and girls Crystal and Ruby; and Adam (Ryndi); and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will take place 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 at St. James United Church, 4506 Sherwood Drive, Regina with Rev. Robin Osborne officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made, in her memory, to the Red Cross Headquarters SK. Division, 2571 Broad Street, Regina, SK, S4P 4H6 or a charity of your choice.
