On December 9th at the Pasqua Hospital, mom quietly passed away at the age of 87. Mae was predeceased by Fred, her husband of 54 years; parents William and Olga Schmidt; brothers William, John, Edward; and sister Isabelle. She was the last of her immediate family. Mae was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Walter, George, Heric and Charles and sisters-in-law Ada, Helen, Ida and Elsie.
Mae is survived by her son Mervin (Annette) and their children, Robin, Juanita, Colby (Kathryn), Vicki (Mike) and Stephanie; daughter Dell (Leo) Grossman and their children Wesley and Michael; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Grace and Mary; brother-in-law Alfred; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mae was born near Strasbourg, but grew up in Regina. From 1936-1939, along with her parents, moved to Gibbs where she met Fred, the love of her life. They moved back to Regina and together raised their family. At the age of 50, Mae took driver training, got her license, bought a car and became a grandmother twice. She then went to work at the Provincial Court House where she stayed for several years. Mae and Fred enjoyed many holidays and traveled extensively, finally spending their winters in sunny Arizona. Mae will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Thank you to all the nurses and caregivers at the Pasqua Hospital for taking such good care of mom during her final days. A Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in memoriam, to a charity of your choice.
