Obituary of Mavis Laverne Elizabeth Pidhorney

MAVIS LAVERNE? ELIZABETH PIDHORNEY May 25, 1939 November 25, 2012 With great sadness, we regret to announce our dear Mom, Laverne passed away peacefully with us by her side on Sunday, November 25, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Bertina and George Lakness; husband Paul Pidhorney; sisters, Dagmar Lakness, Alida Unseth and Gladys Erhardt; and brother Bernie Lakness. Laverne is survived by her children, Wade (Marnelle) Pidhorney, Dawn (Darvin) Zimmer and Kim (Dennis) Tokarz; grandchildren, Colby Zimmer, Krista Zimmer, Madison Pidhorney, Paul Tokarz and Sara Tokarz; siblings, Borg Elden, Mildred (Eldon) Norum, Kathy Fenton and Carl Lakness; sister-in-law Theresa Lakness; brother-in-law Palmer Unseth; in-laws Frank and Pat Pidhorney; as well as numerous cousins, niece, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mom lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. As a grandmother, she loved her grandchildren dearly and rarely ever missed a hockey, football, soccer, baseball or basketball game or a dance recital. Our mother had many past times like gardening, dancing, playing cards, volunteering and her favourite sport of golf. Mom loved golfing and spending time with her golf friends. Over the years, Mom has earned bragging rights on numerous holes in one. A woman of life, generosity and kindness will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Heaven has a new angel. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 4825 Dewdney Avenue, Regina on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Hendricksen officiating. Private interment to follow at Govan Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Special thanks to Aunt Kathy, Willa Swanson, Lavernes golfing family, Wilma Whyte, Lynn Taylor and all friends and family who supported Laverne and family through her illness. Thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital and a very special thanks to the staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their kindness, care and support. In lieu of flowers, a final wish of Lavernes was donations to be made to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
