Obituary of Michael 'Mike' Didowycz

September 19, 1925 " December 15, 2009 With family by his side, Mike passed away peacefully on December 15, 2009. He was born in Czortowiez, Ukraine on September 19, 1925 and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He began his life in Canada working on a farm near North Battleford and then began working in construction. He worked for Olynyk, Red River and Wappel Construction. Early on, he moved to Moose Jaw where he met his wife Jean in 1952 and married in 1955. In 1962 the family moved to Regina where Mike resided until his passing. Mike was hard working, generous and cared for his family deeply. He was proud of his children, enjoyed his grandchildren, liked to travel, and in his spare time, built three homes. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jean, who he was married to for 54 years. Jean cared for him and was by his side continuously over the last few years. He will be dearly missed by his children, Garry (Marianne), Mary (Paul Mansfield), Sally (Joel Grotsky) and his loving grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Kayla, Kyle, Tatjana, Michael, Joseph and Alysia. Mike is also survived by his brother Wasyl and sister Olena; as well as several nieces and nephews in the Ukraine and the U.S.A. Prayers will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Divine Liturgy will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street, Regina with Rt. Rev. Msgr. R. Luzney presiding.
