Obituary of Evelyn May Lewis

On December 27th, 2009, Evelyn passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Harry Lewis; her brother Austin Froom; her father and mother Carmi and May (nee Coons); her sister-in-law Marie Symes (Llewellyn) and Foster and Margaret (nee Rutley) Froom. Left to miss her are her son Gordon Lewis (Janet Blair); granddaughter Lindsay Johnstone (Tim); grandson Paul Lewis; and great-granddaughter Callie Johnstone. Also left are Charles Froom, Emily Lyons (nee Froom), Helen Shuttleworth (Bill) and Elizabeth Sidorn (John) and her friends. Evelyn was born and raised in Regina where she lived most of her life. She attended Central Collegiate and Reliance Business College. For many years she enjoyed working as a court reporter at the Court of Queens Bench. Her greatest joys in life were her family, especially her grandchildren, and her many friends. Knox Metropolitan United Church, of which she was an honorary lifetime member, and the friends made there were central to her life. She loved to participate in all church activities. Evelyn will be remembered for her optimism, laughter and the energy she brought to all her pursuits. The family extends gratitude and thanks to Dr. Stephen Bester, and to the staff of Princess Care Home and Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for their exceptional care and compassion. A celebration of Evelyns life will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Rev. Robert Kitchen officiating.
