Obituary of Ronald Givens Smith

Ronald, late of Regina, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the age of 72. Predeceased by his parents, William Givens and Eva Grace, Ron is survived by his sister Marjorie Tourigny of Calgary, his brother William Keith of Pittsburgh and two nephews, Mike Tourigny of Calgary, Joel Tourigny of Victoria and one niece, Kelly Kurschner of Chicago. Ron attended the School for the Deaf in Saskatoon and following that, he had a lengthy career with the Leader Post. He was active in the Regina Association of the Deaf for many years. He loved to travel and learn about far away places. He also loved visiting with friends and family and particularly enjoyed his nephews and his niece and their families. He had a great sense of humor and was very astute at observing people and subsequently imitating their movements. Cheering for the Saskatchewan Roughriders was his passion and he was a season ticket holder for 48 years. He cared for his mother, who was his constant companion, until she died in 2001 and then with failing vision he courageously lived on his own. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 11.00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, with Rev. Bob Wilson officiating. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, 2341 Broad Street, Regina, SK, S4P 1Y9 or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 2550 Broad Street, Regina SK, S4P 3Z4
