Obituary of Elsie 'Maud' Stevens

Elsie Maud Stevens (nee Hayward) was born February 16, 1916, on the family farm, near Leask, SK and passed away at Regina SK on January 15, 2010. Maud was predeceased by her husband Edward Lloyd, on April 06,1987, after being married for 50 years. Maud was also predeceased by her son James Lloyd on July 27, 2004, parents Arthur and Beatrice Hayward, sisters: Lillian Peterson, Grace Floen; brothers: William and Arthur Hayward, and grandson Chris Chappelle. Left to mourn are daughters: Patricia Stevens, Beatrice Chappelle (Gary), Brenda Petrowitsh (Rollie); daughter-in-law Eila; grandchildren: Debbie Mihial, Lori Stevens, Kevin Stevens (Madison), Glen Stevens (Laurie), Carolyn Pullano (Steve), Jim Chappelle, Kimberley Blocka; great-grandchildren; Rebbecca, Trevor Stevens, Kade Stevens, Lia and Antonia Pullano; sisters: Emily Milne, Reta Wurzer (Dave); brothers: John, Albert, Geoffrey (Pauline), Victor (Eleanor), Stanley (Mae) and Robert Hayward; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her long time friend Margie Sentes. Maud was a devoted Wife and Mother to her children. She was always ready and willing to help out family or friends wherever needed. Maud loved her family to be gathered around and was instrumental in arranging many family reunions with all her brothers, sisters and their families. Maud had a keen sense of humour and could laugh the blues away for any of us. When her children came in with a tale of woe she would soon have them laughing at the funny spectacle they made. As well as being a full time Wife and Mother, Maud worked at the local store to help out, then went back for more schooling and got a good job at Vital Stats for 24 years. In her spare time she sewed nearly all the clothes for her girls, helped her sisters and friends when they needed a new dress. Maud loved sewing and often worked until the wee hours of the morning to complete a dress or shirt for something special the next day. Then she would arise bright and cheerful the next morning to get everyone and herself ready for work or school. Maud enjoyed gardening and was thrilled to have home grown veggies and berries for their meals - anything to add to the families nutritional needs, to stretch the paycheck, but always willing to give help to anyone else in need. Maud always enjoyed having friends and family come to visit and stay for a while, enjoying her delicious pies while they visited with one another. In 2002 Maud fell and broke her hip and needed more assistance, so she moved to Silva Care Home. We would like to thank all the staff at Silva Care for being so kind and loving to Mom. We know that she felt loved and cared for by all of you. Mom moved to Santa Maria Nursing Home on June 17, 2008. All the nurses and staff were very caring and attentive there, and we know she was well looked after. Thank you to the staff for their kindness and making the move there easy on Mom. We would also like to thank Barb Deets, Mauds niece for all of the care and attention she has given Maud, they had a very special relationship she truly appreciated. We know that all who knew Mom will miss her humor and quick wit. She often made us laugh with little jokes and comments she made. Mom loved music and dancing and I know that Mom and Dad are up in heaven having a dance and a good laugh. Mom is joining Dad (Edward Lloyd) who passed away on April 6, 1987. Mom will also be joining her son James Lloyd who passed away on July 27, 2004. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Marys Anglican Church, 15th Avenue and Montague Street, Regina, SK. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon SK S7H 0S5 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
