Obituary of Lilly Selma Kurtz

After 77 years of a full and beautiful life, it is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lilly Selma on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Predeceased by her beloved husband Henry (Heinrich), Lilly is survived by her four daughters and their families: Elaine Kurtz-Hardowa and Ron Hardowa, and their children Rhett and Connor; Carla and Robert Berry, and their children Nicole, Nolan and Madeline; Ingrid Kurtz and Gary Gerein, and their children Clare and Carmelle; Brenda Kurtz-Lenko and Mark Lenko, and their children Nicholas, Tatiana and Karina. She is also survived by her siblings: Lea Campbell and family; Bill and Helen Pidde and family; Lilly Trueman and family of Edmonton. Lilly was born on July 5, 1932 in Werob, Ukraine. After immigrating to Canada, she met the love of her life: Henry. Together, they built a life in Regina, raising four beautiful daughters and ten wonderful grandchildren. A long-time employee of The Bay, Mom used her natural charm and vibrant people skills to become a friend of many. After retirement, she and Henry enjoyed relaxing at the cottage they built at Island View and, even after Henrys passing, she continued to enjoy peaceful summers on the lake with her many lake friends. Forever on the go, Mom participated in activities ranging from swimming to singing in the German choir and was always eager to lend a hand at Trinity Lutheran Church and many other organizations with which she had been involved. Always interested in continuing education, she completed many courses at the Senior Center at the University of Regina. Of her many passions in life, Mom always seemed most delighted when she was busy cooking her exceptional meals and desserts for those she loved, hosting sleepovers for the grandchildren and entertaining friends and family whenever an opportunity arose. With her gifted gardening skills, she grew beautiful flowers and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The delicious pies she produced from her apple trees were famous among family and friends. Her constant dedication to family meant she made a tremendous effort to keep in touch with distant relatives, and strived to be there for her grandchildren every step of the way. Even if it meant traveling long distances, she would never miss an opportunity to support the varied activities of her grandchildren. Mom will be dearly remembered as a caring, giving person who was full of life and cherished every moment with her loved ones. A Celebration of Lillys Life will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, Saskatchewan with Pastor Lindsay Hognestad officiating. Interment will be held in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7K 2H8, or the Senior Centre at the University of Regina.
