Obituary of Patrick Joseph Moran

Born July 22, 1925, Calgary, Alberta Died February 2, 2010, Regina, Saskatchewan On this date, Joe completed almost 85 years of his life journey in the loving presence of his wife and all his children in his home. It was a privilege to have been his caregivers over the past year and we give thanks to God for giving us such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Joe was above all a spiritual man of deep faith: a man of integrity, goodness and kindness. He was a friend to legions of people. He truly lived his Christian life, attending daily Mass all his life up to about two months before the end of his life when he was too frail to do so and others in our faith community brought Holy Communion to his home. He truly welcomed his end of life passage and his journey into Gods kingdom. In life, Joes focus was always on family, his church, his work commitments, and community service. He and his wife were founding members in 1956 of the Parish of Christ the King Catholic Church in Regina, which he served in many different capacities. Joe is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Laureen Moran; his daughter: Marg Moran McQuinn and husband David McQuinn (Crawford Estates, SK); daughter Kathy Kratt and husband Larry Kratt, grandsons David Kratt and Daniel Kratt (Bianca) and great grandson Lincoln Joseph Kratt (Calgary, AB); his daughter Pat Mahoney and granddaughters Gillian Mahoney (Vancouver, BC), Adrienne Mahoney (Regina), and grandson Christopher McFetridge (Toronto, ON), and Pats companion Ivan Machiskinic (Regina); his son Michael Moran and granddaughter Isabel Moran (Windsor, ON); his daughter Monica Moran Dowhaniuk and her husband Maurice Dowhaniuk, granddaughter Madeline Dowhaniuk (Calgary, AB); his son Tom Moran and his wife Kim Brown and her children Michael and Alexandra Gray (Regina, SK); son John Moran and grandsons Merrick Joseph and Kelton Moran (Regina, SK); his sister-in-law Betty Moran (Victoria, BC); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers and sister and her son, and Joes youngest daughter, Lisa Moran. Prayers will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 5, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina and a Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina on February 6, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow the service at Innovation Place, 140 - 10 Research Drive, University of Regina campus. Joe requested that instead of flowers, he would appreciate donations to be made to the Marian Centre, 1835 Halifax Street, Regina, Saskatchewan S4P 1A2 where Joe and Laureen have volunteered weekly for 25 years. His remains will be interred at a later date. The family is deeply appreciative, as was Joe, of the kind, gentle unique services offered by Regina QuAppelle Health Regions 24 Hour Palliative Care and Home Care programs. We also wish to thank Joes physicians, especially Dr. Stewart McMillan, Dr. Patrick Duffy, and Dr. S. Karunakaran. We also wish to thank all of Joes close church friends. Joe was a member of the third order of St. Francis. The prayer of St Francis, which appears below, was the essence of Joes life. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled, as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.?
