Obituary of Gwen Lauraine Joorisity

GWEN LAURAINE JOORISITY August 24, 1922 December 2, 2012 On Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the age of 90, our beloved Grandma Gwen left us to join her family and friends awaiting her in their special place. She was reunited with her parents Port and Letticia Roundy; her husband Les; brothers Eugene and Shelley Roundy; son Wayne; grandson Troy; and lifetime friend Rhoda Newman. Gwen is survived by her daughter Gayle Megson (Bill Dickin); sister-in-law Helen Roundy; daughter-in-law Georgia; grandchildren Trent (Rhonda) Dickin, Randy (Sarah) Dickin, , Ryan (Santanna) Dickin, Leslie (Kirt) Dickie and Leslie Strand; six great-granddaughters Jennifer and Kelsey Joorisity, Logan Strand, Chandler, Troy and Rori Dickie; her new great-grandson Max Dickin; and many special nieces and nephews. Gwen was born in the Truax area where she spent her married life and farmed with her husband until his death in 1965. Shortly after, she moved to Regina where she played an important role in the rearing of her three grandsons, Trent, Randy and Ryan. She was an active member of the Truax community. As a young woman, she played ball and later, curled. Gwen was a highly accomplished seamstress and a fabulous cook, famous for her angel food cakes and decorated wedding cakes. In later years, her love of the Riders, Blue Jays and Canadian curling brought her hours of tv pleasure, with phone calls to either Rhoda or Helen at half-time, between innings or ends to discuss the action. At Grandmas request, there will be no formal funeral service. Interment will take place at a later date. Those wishing may make a donation, in memoriam to a charity of their choice.
