We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nelcia Nellie? Nicholls, who passed away peacefully with family by her side, at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Regina, SK on Monday, February 8, 2010, following a sudden struggle with lung cancer. She was 77 years of age. Nellie was born in Redmans Village, St. Thomas, Barbados, West Indies on December 17, 1932, where she grew up as a child. She moved to London, England to become a nurse, where she wed her husband Keith Anthony Nicholls. Nellie will be deeply missed as she has touched the lives of many people with her great smile and laugh during her life as a registered nurse and caregiver. Nellie owned and operated her own nursing home for many years -- Nel Care Homes and previous to that worked at The Regina Lutheran Nursing Home as an RN and at the Regina Jail as a maitre d. Nellie was predeceased by her parents Silvain Cummins and Emmeline Lewis Cummins, one sister and four brothers of Barbados. She is survived by her loving family: former husband Keith Nicholls of Regina, SK; daughter Maria Nicholls of Regina, SK; daughter Janet (Jan, nee Nicholls) Highgate, and son-in-law James Highgate of Calgary, AB; and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, and Samantha Nicholls of Regina, SK, Jordan Highgate of Calgary, AB; sister Gertrude Manning and brother Owen Cummins of New York, niece Betty Nicholls of Toronto, ON; nephew Sylman Cummins of Barbados; niece Paulette Nicholls of Toronto, ON; nephew Samuel Manning of New York; numerous nieces and nephews around the world; best friend Maureen Johnson of Regina, SK; and many other close friends and relatives.
