Obituary of William Edward Speers

William Edward (Bud) Speers April 30, 1936 December 2, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather (Pampa), brother, uncle and friend, William Edward (Bud) Speers on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Bud always left you with a smile on your face, whether from one of his many jokes and limericks, or because he winched a complete stranger out of the ditch on his way to work. He was a kind, caring man who always lent a helping hand to anyone in need. His immediate family recalls many Christmases shared with new acquaintances, whether they be new to the country, alone at Christmas or without a place to go to feel the love and warmth of the season. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember the goodwill he bestowed on others. He prided himself on being an optimist, always finding the best in everyone. Bud began hand-lettering signs on his mothers kitchen table. With much work and determination, this grew to his dream of a large-scale manufacturing facility for neon and plastic signs, Speers Neon Signs. He and his wife built a fleet of big shiny trucks and a shop filled with all the equipment required to light up the skies with flashing neon. He was proud of his contract to install the General Motors signs across the province. His family will remember him as a man of many talents: artistic, intelligent, witty, innovative, optimistic, and compassionate. Even when times were difficult, he never lost his sense of humour or his love for people, particularly children. He will be remembered as a man of fashion with his Stetson hat, his Hart shoes, his loud suit jackets and his famous cigar. Success: To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. Born April 30, 1936, Bud is survived by his wife, Barbara, and his daughters, Lori (Kelly) Uhersky, and Nadine (Marc Green); his grandchildren who he cherished and who cherished him (Melissa, Danny, Landyn Uhersky) and (Samantha, Cassie, Caroline, Hannah Green); brothers, Jim (Joan) and Gordie; sisters-in-law, Carol and Jo Maxwell; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by mother, Christine, father, Thomas Wesley, brother, Lee (Gladys), niece, Kelli and mother and father-in law Alexander and Jean Maxwell. Some of Buds sayings: Think positive and positive things will happen. Make new friends but keep the old, for new friends are silver, old friends are gold.
