Obituary of Joseph James Cook

Our hero died February 22, 2010 after a valiant 4 year battle with cancer. Joe finally became so tired, that he could no longer go on. He rallied just one more time to give the family he cherished so deeply, a chance to say the final farewell, and took his first step towards a kinder, pain-free destination on his new journey. We know he will be watching, and waiting over all of us until we join him on the other side. Joe was predeceased by his mother Phoebe Cook (nee Leyland), father Joseph Cook, sisters Kathleen and Clarissa, brother-in-law Bill, and niece Marilyn. He is survived by his devoted wife Sharon, daughters Sherri Nagel and her children Brandi (Klaus) Nji, Jason Nagel, Chantel (Misha) Plosker, Ashlee (Jarrod) Kinney, Shayla and Kyra Nagel; son Warren (Andrea) and their children Ryan, Kyle and Joseph Cook; daughter Robyn Cook (Faron) and children Brittany, Hayley, Karleigh, Zackary, Kaedan, and new addition due in July. Joe is also survived by three great-grandchildren Faith, Isaiah, and Adian Nji, as well as many nieces, nephews and devoted friends who tried, through their home and hospital visits, to make Joes day a little brighter. A special thank you to his best friend since childhood, Ed Chobater, who popped back and forth, on a regular basis between Edmonton and Regina, to bolster Joes sprits and morale. The smiles, thumbs-up and laughter, were better medicine than anything the hospital had to offer. Norm Patrick usually accompanied Ed on his visits to add his own sense of humor to the dull hospital days. Special thanks, to Shirley, Bud, Pat and Bob for their surprise meals, treats, jokes, and support of Sharon and family during the darker hours of the last several months. A big thank you also goes out to Dean Osborne, who is like Joes second son, and Warrens best friend, for lending a helping hand in so many ways. Joe served, and took great pride in his career with the Regina Fire Department from July 1958 May 1990, when he retired as a captain. He shared a mutual respect and rapport with the men he worked with and treasured his memories of the lighter side of the job.? Although he showed his game face? to the world (WHATEVER), he had a gentler side as well. Joe loved nature, animals and camping trips with his family and friends. He loved his Boston Terriers, his current one being Shadow, who already misses him terribly. We want to express our deep appreciation to all of the nurses and doctors at both the Pasqua and General Hospitals who provided care, and understanding over the last 4 years for our Gentle Giant.? A Celebration of Joes Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK. Interment in the Field of Honor at Riverside Memorial Park.f Flowers most gratefully declined. In lieu, donations may be made, in memoriam, to the Regina Firefighters Burn Fund, P.O. Box 1422 Regina, SK S4P 3C2, or to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143 Regina, SK S49 3G7. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
