Obituary of John Thomas Ackerman

Born on a farm near Balgonie, July 11, 1917- Died February 27, 2010. John was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Lauman), three brothers who died in infancy, brother Chris, sister Toni, and sister Marg; son Wayne and grandson Brian (Goddard). He is survived by his son Larry (Connie) and their daughters - Sharla Woloschuk (Neal) and their children, Nicholas and Jillian; Lee Jay Lawrence (Jeff) and their daughter Isabella. Daughter Sharon (Gordon) and their sons - Patrick (Sophie) and Samm. John served in the Royal Canadian Artillery during WWII and rejoined the military as a clerk in the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in Japan during the Korean War and was later posted to Regina where he served until his retirement in 1967. Shortly after his military service he became an employee of IPSCO until he retired in 1982. John was a founding family member of Christ the King Church and during his life time served on many church committees. He will be fondly remembered for his always present smile and the gleam in his eye. He was always the first to assist someone in need and was quick to tell a joke or to make people smile. Above all, he put others first and was the most compassionate man that anyone could have had for a father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. A Funeral Mass for John will be held on Thursday March 4, 2010 in Christ the King Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina at 10:30 am, with Father Tonny Dizy presiding. Flowers most gratefully declined. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
