Obituary of Tae-Sik Yi

TAE-SIK YI (November 2, 1935 - March 9, 2010) Tae-Sik Yi passed away peacefully at the Regina Pasqua Hospital surrounded by his four loving children, Sunny, Sue, Irene and Sam. Tae-Sik was born in Taegu, South Korea at the height of the Japanese occupation, and survived both World War II and the devastating Korean War to become an auto mechanics instructor employed by the U.S. Army. On October 31, 1965 he married ChungHae Yi (June 25, 1942 -December 23, 2008) and they started their family. On July 28, 1976 Tae-Sik immigrated to Canada with his wife and their four young children, and started a new life in Regina. Tae-Sik worked for the University of Regina until his retirement in 2000 and was a respected elder of the local Korean community. When he lost his wife to cancer just two days before Christmas in 2008, Tae-Sik found great love and support from his friends at the First Presbyterian Church and the Korean community in Regina. In the past year Tae-Sik took up playing the clarinet with some of his Korean friends who embraced him as a father figure. He will be sorely missed by his band-mates. But his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his family and Tae-Sik was devoted to his children. Tae-Sik is survived by his three daughters, Sun-Kyung (Sunny), Yu-Kyung (Sue), Hi-Kyung (Irene), and son Ung-So (Sam), and his sons-in-law Jeff Austin and John Haslett Cuff, and daughter-in-law Hyun-Ju. Tae-Sik will be especially missed by his three adoring grandchildren, Spencer and Noah Austin, and Aysha Haslett Cuff. Funeral Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina on Friday, March 12th. The viewing will be at 10:30 a.m. and the service will start at 11:00 a.m.
