Obituary of Lois Howlett

Lois Howlett passed away in Regina on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the age of ninety years. She was predeceased by her husband, Ellis in 1999; parents Sara and Chester Collins; sister Doris Johnstone; brother Boyce Collins; brothers-in-law Duane Howlett and Malcolm Johnstone. Lois is survived by daughters, Carol Howlett of Saskatoon and Margo (Dennis) Dutton of Winnipeg; sons Byron (Pat) of Regina, Lyle (Nancy) of Kelowna, Evan (Doreen) of Saskatoon; grandchildren Craig (Sarah) Dutton and Jayme Dutton (Sean), Jordan and Lucas Howlett, Kristen (Jack) Goulet and Cassie Howlett, Joel, Marnie and Jill Howlett; great-grandchildren Tanner and Travis Goulet. Lois was born February 16, 1920 in Milestone, SK. She lived in the Milestone and Osage area in her early years. She met Ellis Howlett in 1939 while living and working in the Rowatt, SK area. They were married December 30, 1942. In 1944 Lois and Ellis purchased land in the Sherwood District where they lived and farmed until Ellis passing in 1999. In the fall of 1999, Lois moved to Regina and lived at Marion Chateau until her passing. In the 50s, 60s and 70s, Lois raised five children and maintained an extensive yard and garden on the farm. When her children were grown, Lois embarked on other activities such as: selling cosmetics, supporting the Roughriders, travelling to China, Egypt and Israel, taking university classes and learning to swim and cross-country ski. Lois was actively involved with the Canadian Club. With her belief in the importance of education, she was instrumental in raising funds for scholarships through the I.O.D.E. Lois was a long time member and Elder of the Regina Avenue Christian Church. Lois and husband Ellis were patrons of the Regina Symphony Orchestra. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to a charity of choice.
