Obituary of Constance 'Connie' Marion Verbeek

Constance Connie? Verbeek (nee: Remus) passed away on March 19, 2010. Connie is predeceased by her Dad, Dawson and by the love of her life her husband, John. Connie is lovingly remembered and survived by her mother, Marion; her daughters Jackie Butch? (Tom) Cyr, Cindy Lee? and her son Mark MK? (Kate); her sister Della Baumgarten; and her buddy Domino, her cat. She is also survived by her five precious grandchildren: Paige, Erica, Jordan Button?, Lukas and Megyn; her aunts, numerous cousins, her wonderful out laws? (both in Canada and Holland) and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Connie made friends easily and had friends across Canada those from her early years in Ontario, her Tuesday Group (Theola, Gisela, Kay and Anne) that she met after John passed away, her lunch buddy (and fellow Blue Jay fan) Lois, and her card buddies and neighbours Mabel and Joan. Connie grew up in Harriston, ON and in her teens, met a young man named John who was boarding with her grandmother. They married a few years later and she became a part of the large Verbeek family. Over the years, Connie & John lived in various locations in Ontario and Connie worked with John farming and in businesses they owned. During these years, John was actively involved in the Optimist Club and he and Connie attended many functions throughout Southwestern Ontario. In 1987, John and Connie moved to Regina, SK to start a new business. At that time, Connie retired and spent even more time knitting, learning cross stitch, supporting the Blue Jays and travelling on business with John which usually took them to a few casinos and almost always back to Ontario to spend time with Jackie and their granddaughters. Over the years, Connie also developed a couple of habits that she was often teased about. Her collection of crafts from the huge stash of yarn she used for knitting to the dozens of cross stitch kits. Jigsaw puzzles Connie was always working on a puzzle and always looking for new ones to do, the walls of her garage being covered with them. Last but not least, Walmart. She loved Walmart and visited the store almost daily and was well known by many of the staff. Anyone who knew Mom, knew she couldnt wait for the new Walmart SuperCentre to open in Regina. Connie loved spending time with her grandchildren whether having them over for family dinners, attending soccer and baseball games, taking them to movies, or the museum. Megamunch? will always remind them of Grandma Connie. Connie enjoyed life and loved spending time with family and friends. Her gentle and kind ways will be missed by all. Many thanks to Dr. Kothare and all of the staff associated with the Pasqua Hospital and the Palliative program for helping us to help Mom. Amazing people helping people like us through the worst times. Connie did not like funerals and didnt particularly like the thought of going to another one, so at her request there will be no funeral or memorial service. Flowers/baskets, etc. most gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to Regina Palliative Care Inc., 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1A5.
