Obituary of Ralph Arthur Dodd

On March 20, 2010 Ralph left this earth at the age of 79 years to be with his darling Dolores in her heavenly home. Ralph was born on the family homestead in the Arbury district, leaving there in the late 1940s to live in Regina. In Regina he was employed as a waiter in some of the local restaurants and in 1950 enrolled in a commercial business course at Balfour Tech. Upon graduating he worked for short periods at Continental Refrigeration, Peoples Credit Jewellers, Eatons and in 1952 for the Canadian National Railways where he enjoyed a career of 42 years, retiring at the age of 64. Ralph was predeceased by the love of his life, Dolores, after fifty years and nine months of a loving caring marriage. He was also predeceased by his parents William and Hilda, his sister, Hilda (Willie) Parsons, his brothers, Edward (Adeline), Walter, Dan, Robert (Eva) as well as numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by brother-in law Randy (Bernie) Schmidt, Qualicum Beach, B.C., nephew Jason Schmidt and niece Nicole (Jason) Peters, both of Calgary. Nephews Roy (Irene) Dodd and their children Camille, Pamela, Gwen and Denise; Dennis (Debbie) Dodd and their children Derek and Stacey; and Brian Dodd; nieces Gloria (Stan) Reeder and their children Janice, James and Angie; Sylvia (Ernie) Bolingbroke and their children Brandon and Shayne, Sherry (Barry) Laic; nephews Glen Dodd and his children Jasmine and Kayla; Darcy Dodd and his son Eddy; special Goddaughter Dianne Fleming who was with Ralph every day while Dolores was in Palliative Care. Ralph was a loving, devoted husband who cared for Dolores fastidiously during the numerous illness inflicted on her in the 50 years and 9 months of marriage. They were never separated except for a two week period in 1980 when Ralph was transferred to Winnipeg. Dolores soon followed and they lived in Winnipeg for 14 years until they returned to their beloved Regina. Ralph and Dolores were very compatible in the they both like so many of the same things: traveling, dancing, plays and musical concerts. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Little Flower Roman Catholic Church, 420 College Avenue on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Barry Anwender officiating. A luncheon will be served in the church auditorium (basement) immediately following the service. Handicapped access (elevator) is available from the Edgar Street parking lot. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
