Obituary of William Robert Duncan

WILLIAM ROBERT DUNCAN APRIL 4, 1944 APRIL 7, 2010 Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender the kind; Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.? It is with sadness, but relief that Bills fight with cancer came to a peaceful end on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Predeceased by his father Willis Duncan (1998) and his mother Grace Duncan (2004). Bill leaves to remember all the good times his wife Eleanor, his son Chad (Christina) and granddaughters Kimberley and Jessie; daughters Marquita (Grant) and Jana (Tim); and stepson Trevor Gates (Sonia) and grandson Atticus. Bill is also survived by his sister Carole Splett (Ed), brother Dough, former wife Juanita, father-in-law Paul Desjardins (Barbara), sisters-in-law Marie and Cindy (Gary), and brother-in-law Wil Desjardins (Rhonda), as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Most of Bills life was spent in Regina; he attended the University of Regina for his Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as his Bachelor of Administration. Although Bill was tempted to pursue a career in science, he opted for economics and had a long and successful career as a civil servant, retiring as Director of Finance for Social Services in 2004. Bills interests were many, including astronomy, rock formations, nature, history, genealogy, creating home videos, downhill skiing, ballroom dancing, golf and travel. Bill loved the Rocky Mountains camp trips when his children were young, downhill skiing and more recently hiking at Jasper. He also enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Pasqua Lake where, under protest, he would help Eleanor with one of her many projects. Last Aprils hot air balloon ride over the rock formations in Cappadocia, Turkey was a highlight of Bills travel experiences. A Celebration of Bills Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, memory gifts may be made to the World Wildlife Fund Canada (wwf.ca/donations) or William Booth Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6. Bills family thanks you sincerely for sharing in their sorrow. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated and will always be remembered. Thanks also to the Palliative Care Team and the staff at Grace Hospice who were so helpful and thoughtful during Bills time there.
