Obituary of Edna Nord

It is with great sadness that Ednas family announces her passing, on April 24, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Edna was born near Girvin, SK on January 21, 1920 to Geier and Lucy Switzer. Edna excelled at school and after graduating earned certification as a registered nurse in 1942 from the Regina General Hospital. She also earned a post-graduate certificate in operating room procedure from St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto. She had a long nursing career, including as matron of the Cupar Union Hospital, retiring at the age of 75 in 1995. She was cherished by her family and many friends. They knew her as a kind, intelligent, compassionate person with a ready smile and a positive outlook on life. Her strong character helped her through many difficult situations and inspired us all. She was charming, had great vitality, and a zest for life. She was the heart and soul of our family. Edna was predeceased by her dear sisters Agnes Stradesky and Evelyn Thompson, loving husbands Bert Force and Leland Nord. She is lovingly remembered by her son Derrick Force (Sandra Swan), her grandchildren Dawn (Kurt) and Jason (Christine), and her daughter Heather Nord (Paul Snell), her sister June Martin and sisters-in-law Beth Logan (Bruce), Shirley Nord and Lillian Hamill. Edna was loved by Bernice Blickle, Barry Thompson, Gay Bond, Lorna Phillips, Maureen Skrypnek, Mervin Martin, Janet Riche, Gerry Sali, Nancy Cranfield, Barr Godkin and their families, and many other cherished nieces and nephews; her special friends, Marjery (Benson) Potter, Lois Milton (John), Vern and Pearl Snell, Susan and Andy Norgaard, Joan Patterson and Hirsch Greenberg and their children Matthew and Elise, Dr. Craig Millne and Gerda, Dr. Stuart McMillan (Cheryl), Dr. Ficzycz (Pat), Dr. Jack Loken (Bev), Phyllis Storz and the Downton family. Ednas family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care Dr. Stuart McMillan provided to her. A celebration of her life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, at 1:00PM, Thursday, April 29, 2010. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
