Obituary of Philip Halter

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Phil Halter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather on Sunday, May 2, 2010. Left to cherish his memory his wife, Irene; daughter, Donna (Jon Wyatt) and grandchildren, Kelly and Wade (Bronwyn); daughter, Kathy and grandchildren, Shawn and Michelle (Rob Cullen) and great grandchildren, Morgan and Kaitlin; and one brother, Frank. Phil was predeceased by his parents, Engelbert and Caroline; one brother, Lawrence; seven sisters, Mary, Annie, Lena, Theresa, Helen, Sophie, and Florentine; and son-in-law, Michael Medwid. Phil was born on April 6, 1919 at Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan. After attending the University of Saskatchewan and serving with the Canadian Armed Forces during W.W. II, Phil embarked on a teaching career. Phil was a Vice Principal and Principal with Regina Catholic Schools for thirty years. He was one of the founding members of the Teachers Credit Union and served on the Board of Directors for over twenty years. Phil was an active member of Holy Cross Church and was involved in parish ministries, the Mens Club, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sports, especially football, hockey, and baseball, and was an avid curler. He pursued many hobbies, including: gardening, woodworking, upholstery, and numerous other handyman activities. During his retirement years, Phil and Irene enjoyed many winter vacations and trips abroad. Throughout his life, Phil placed a great emphasis on family and enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Phil will be lovingly remembered and missed by all whose lives he touched. The family would like to thank the staff at the Veteran Wing 3-5 for their professionalism, compassion and generosity of spirit. The outstanding care provided to Phil during the last months of his life was much appreciated by the family. A private family Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the Chapel at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, with Monsignor Ken Miller presiding and Karen Ziegler, Chaplain, assisting. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
