Obituary of Yvette Irene Paradis

February 14, 1947 - May 15, 2010 With Fred, her sons and two dear friends by her side, our loving, selfless and courageous Yvette left us to mourn her passing. Yvette was predeceased by her mother Cecile (1998), her father Alphonse (1999), her twin sister Juliette (2000) and nephew Matthew Kelly. Like her parents and her sister, Yvette too suffered from the dreaded disease. Yvette is survived by her loving, devoted partner Fred Steininger, her grieving sons Francis (Collene) Wales, and step-grandchildren Phillip and Sierra; Bill (Angela) Wales, and her sweet grandson Billy, born on January 7, 2010. She only had a few months to adore her little angel. Yvette is also survived by her sister Adele (Gerry) Manz and twin sisters Michelle (Lorne) Girouard and Richelle (Grant) Barnsley; brother-in-law Joe Kelly and seven nieces and nephews. Also mourning Yvettes passing are Freds daughters Jodi Steininger (Calvin Vass) and Eliza, Madeline and Emerick Vass; Nola Steininger (Kevin Skelley) and Bronwyn and Gillian Skelley. Born and raised in Regina, our Yvette attended Holy Rosary and St. James Elementary Schools, as well as Sacred Heart Academy. She then completed a secretarial course at Balfour Tech. In 1966, she began her 37 year career as a dedicated Saskatchewan Government employee who rarely missed a day of work. She first was employed in the Hansard office; then the Mineral Resources Department. In 1974, she left the government to pursue other interests, but returned four years later to work for the Executive Council. In 1983, she accepted a position in the Revenue Division of the Department of Finance and worked there until she retired from public service in 2007 as an office manager. From her childhood until her passing, Yvette played the flute. Her last solo performance with the Prairie Winds Band was as the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre on April 22. Yvette had many hobbies. She loved to knit, sew, crochet and cross-stitch. After she retired she also started making fur teddy bears and stained glass art. In 2007, Yvette joined Angels 4 Warmth, became the recording secretary, and, until a month ago, knitted innumerable items for special care homes and adult shelters. She especially loved knitting beautiful, tiny sweaters and bonnets for babies. When Yvette and Fred met in 2002, their relationship blossomed. They danced, golfed and avidly watched the Riders on TV. They enjoyed Globe and Regina Little Theatre productions, vacations in Victoria and PEI, a cruise in the Caribbean and, just before she was diagnosed with cancer, toured Europe in September 2008. A Celebration of Yvettes Life will be held at 1:00 P.M on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. The family wishes to thank Dr. Zarkovic, Dr. McLeod and staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre as well as Palliative Care doctors Dr. Clein, Dr. Johnson and staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their kindness and care of Yvette. For those who wish to honour and commemorate Yvettes life, kindly make donations to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 204-3775 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK S4S 9Z9 or Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Rd, Regina, SK S4R 8P6.
