Obituary of Valentine Ackerman

1921 2010 Val Ackerman passed away peacefully at Wascana Grace Hospice on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife Mary Ackerman (nee Bandas), November 10, 1990; brothers, Chris and John; and sisters, Toni and Marg; Val is survived by his children: daughters, Yvonne of Ottawa, Mary Ann Moser and sons, Jonathan (Cathy, great-grandchildren, Madison and Duran), Craig and Derek; son Richard (JoAnn) and daughters, Christine (Tom), Sherry (Kris), Candyce (Ronal); and 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Val served the Navy in WWII R.C.N. V.R. He worked for Sicks Brewery (Molson), owned and operated Ackies Tea Room on College & McKay and Midwest Shuffleboard, retiring from the Centre of the Arts. Val was a resident of Hamilton Plaza where he was involved with many of the Golden Club activities. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus and Little Flower Parish, participating in the reading of the liturgy and was also Treasurer of Little Flower Burial Society. He liked playing cards, fishing, making his own shuffleboards and always had a smile and a joke to share with others. His heart and home was always open to family and friends and was often called upon to help with small building projects. A Service to celebrate his life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. Thank you to nurses and staff at 6F Room 18 at Regina General Hospital and a special thank you to the palliative care team at William Booth.
