Obituary of Nolan Laird Matthies

NOLAN LAIRD MATTHIES October 1939 July 2010 Our Dad and Grandpa quietly left us on July 10, 2010. He will be forever loved and remembered by his children Jason (Kelly) Matthies of Denver, Colorado, and Erin (Steve) Shuttleworth of Carolina Beach, North Carolina. He was the loving and loved grandpa of Matthew, Garrett, and Emerson Shuttleworth. Dad is also survived by his sisters Colleen Matthies of Dunnell, Minnesota, LuAnn (Todd) Coyle of Maple Grove, Minnesota, niece Meghann Coyle, our mother Reona Matthies, his parents-in-law Harold and Dorothy Hillestad of Regina. He was predeceased by his parents Mabel and Rudy Matthies of Dunnell, Minnesota. Nolan immigrated to Saskatchewan in 1965 from Minnesota and spent a long career working for the Government of Saskatchewan, Parks and Renewable Resources. Following his retirement he enjoyed many years with the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority, helping to restore shorebird habitat near Chaplin, Saskatchewan. A Celebration of Nolans Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Nolan wished for a memorial to be placed along the interpretive walk at the Chaplin Nature Centre.
