Obituary of Winston Blaine Mackay

Blaine (Winston) Mackay was born on December 23, 1941 in Methley, Manitoba. He was the second child of Clarence and Margaret. Blaine, his parents and two siblings, Beatrice and John, left Methley for Alberta in the 1950s eventually making a home in Calgary. Soon thereafter, Clarence lost his battle to heart disease and Margaret remarried Les and a fourth sibling, Russel was born. Blaine went to school in Calgary and eventually became a masseuse in the YMCA in Regina. He returned to Calgary unaware that Regina would play a role in his later life. He soon met Louella and with his best friend Joey by his side, they ran off to Spokane, Washington to elope. Louella and Blaine were married for 30 years and had two boys Jordan and Stuart. Blaine and Lou were entrepreneurs and started his own trophy business with a retrofitted Winnebago and a lot of spirit. Eventually the Winners Circle trophy van grew and became a trophy shop next to the Smiling Buda tattoo parlour. The shop employed many family members over the years and many friends who became family to the Mackays. Their reputation in the industry grew and the Winners Circle was sold and Grav-tech opened, supplying the industry with material and equipment and continuing to employ friends who became family and family who became friends. As the boys grew, they were close friends to both parents. Jordan met Josie and in fall 2000 were married. Joy was mixed with sadness when Blaine lost Louella to cancer in the spring 2001. In the fall of that same year, Blaine battled his first heart attack and swore he saw Louella telling him to go back he wasnt finished yet. In January of 2002, Ella, his first grandchild, was born in Regina and Blaine decided it was time to make Regina home. In 2004, Paul, his second grandchild, arrived. And in 2005, Blaine met Patricia. Pat became is friend and later his wife. He loved her daughters Danielle (Paul) and Diane (Dave) as though they were his own. He and Pat travelled to Europe twice, Australia, New York, Phoenix and various road trips to Winnipeg and Calgary. Soon Anna, Danielle and Pauls daughter and his third grandchild came into Blaines life. In his last year, Blaine found much joy. Stuart had found happiness with Sienna bringing with her sweet little Layla. Blaine traveled to Vancouver to golf in Whistler with Jordan. And, he found enrichment in volunteering full-time at the United Way as an intern raising millions for those in need in Regina. He had a good life. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Margaret; stepfather Les and his wife Louella; and his brother John. Blaine leaves to mourn and celebrate him, the many friends who are like family, and family who are like friends, including his wife Patricia; sons, Jordan (Josie), Stuart (friends Sienna and little Leila); daughters, Diane (Dave), Danielle (Paul); grandchildren, Ella, Paul, and Anna; siblings, Beatrice and Russell; best buddy Joey; numerous nieces and nephews; and the family dogs who he walked daily. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Blaines memory may be made to the United Way of Regina, 1440 Scarth Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2E9.
